Hybrid Sub Cruise/Internship

The Hybrid Sub Cruise/Internship exposes Midshipmen (MIDN) to the industry that supports the U.S. Submarine Force. MIDN will spend one week underway on a Fast-Attack Submarine, followed by a three-week internship with Squadron Two (CSS-2) at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME. Selected Midshipmen will work side by side the advanced manufacturing (AM) team in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS) where they will get first-hand experience on top-of-the-line AM technology. The AM team at PNS works with 3-D printers to manufacture a wide variety of parts and equipment. Midshipmen will lead the design, testing, and manufacturing of these parts in real-world projects for use on U.S. Submarines and throughout the shipyard. These parts allow U.S. warships to get back in the fight quicker or stay in the fight longer.

Foreign Exchange (FOREX)

Midshipmen (MIDN) have the opportunity to complete summer training abroad in a foreign country. These opportunities allow MIDN to experience other militaries which enhance knowledge and development on their path to becoming a Naval Officer.

Republic of Korea Naval Academy (ROKNA) Foreign Exchange (FOREX)

The ROKNA FOREX allowed a MIDN Ireton the opportunity to join the junior class of ROKNA on their summer training for two weeks. The training consisted of sailing up and down the coast of South Korea on the ROKS Hansando, an amphibious helicopter training ship, stopping at major ports and commands along the way. Throughout the training, MIDN Ireton experienced life on a ship, participated in international relations, learned about the ROK Navy and Marine Corps, toured ROK Naval Bases and Marine Corps Brigades, listened and spoke to senior officers from all branches of the ROK military, took classes while on the ship, and partook in different Korean traditions, including a memorial service, learning about their signs of respect and language, and visiting different monuments and museums.
